If You Want To Grow, Stop Focusing On Competition!
Competition is no new word to us, especially for the marketers who are struggling day in and day out to sell their products. With new technologies emerging each day of the year round, I wonder sometimes is there going to be any end, looking at the current circumstances, I feel obviously there is no end, and the tensions of global warming will keep rising, oh, that is now just another tension filled topics, lets come back to our main discussion for today. Living in a competition world is no easy job, where its the survival playing a key role in your growth as a company, as a business or an individual. Do you always see yourself wondering about the prospects of competition and what your company is doing or you are doing, are you really confused about your prime goals, does selling sound a really difficult word that you cannot digest, if yes is the answer then you surely need some medicine, a good literature works on dealing with competition.
Every marketer gives his best while selling a product and the same was the case with me when I headed out my career in this field some years ago, I was in a company where we directly had to deal with big clients like X and X (sorry but cant reveal the names here) some topmost amongst the fortune 500s, I never keenly looked over the term competition, I followed and catered to my clients need by understanding them and serving them what my company could afford but as slowly times changed, I felt a bout of pressure piling over my head each day, I was depressed about the way it was working and I thought, what the heck is market. My main idea was to focus on competition but soon realized that it is going to do no good to me or my company, it literally will crush the inner creativity of my company, why should we be mimicking others when we are capable of achieving something ourselves?
Focusing on competition, will divert my mind from my company and instead concentrate on what other companies are doing and then you might think, coming out with a superior product to win customer’s heart but we fail to understand, that they might be dong wrong and that you know your customers well then theirs, isn’t it? Focusing on competition means you are loosing yourself to other company and that you are marketing against yourself, instead why don’t we try bringing in something that consumers will really like, at cheaper costs and the best customer service you can give. You don’t need to concentrate on competitors but on your customers, who are whole and soul of your company, if they buy your product then your company is going to run.
Can there be some proper organized way to follow through which I can cater to my clients need and understand them better rather than wasting time in seeking competition, yes, you have it but you got to use sharp use of your brains by acting fast and cleanly on proactive leadership, lead them for years to come by knowing their needs and what they expect from a company or a product. Know the mission, the plans, the strategies of the client’s company, and analyze, not compare ourselves, how we fit in to that. Once you know where you see yourself in that bigger picture, it will change the way you see your products or your services and creativity automatically flows in to your nerves, you start innovating and know how to act upon proactive leadership.
