The main principles of ergonomics in the workplace means safer work environment along with worker’s job description.

Workers working in an organization are prone to back injuries due to improper sitting arrangements, perhaps the computer station or a chair are not situated at proper height. These are accidental injuries which just occur, lots of people today face injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome that gives lots of neck strain, back pain and also pain on the legs. I was one of the lucky ones to escape this injury; I just got a doubt of it when my left hand used to become numb some months back. But after detailed reports, it turned out to be some other minor injury and not the carpal tunnel. Holding your body in one direction all the time may cause a decrease in elasticity in tendons and muscle ligaments in back that causes discomfort. It is best advised to take little breaks while you are working that includes standing up, taking a stretch, and going for a short walk even if that means taking a walk in the office area.

A proper ergonomics in the workplace should include some of the below stated specifications:
  • The working desk that can be adjusted in height.
  • Your chair that allows you to put your feet on the floor while you are sitting on it, your legs should not be dangling in the air. The thighs should be parallel to floor while you are sitted.
  • Your computer monitor should be straight to your eyes not giving much strain for your eyes to look up or down.
  • The keyboard that you use should have rests for your wrists, it should be situated in such a manner that your wrists remain in a ninety degree angle.
