Can Poets Be Good Businesspersons?
Business is poetic; these words sound strange and weird but stand true.
Organisational theory has proved time and again that poets who hold managerial posts are innovative and deep thinkers, and they have the ability to look at the most disturbing and complex situations and environments in such a manner, that the gravity of the given situation reduces and creative ideas float around to handle the problem.
The shining examples of this theory are- T. S. Elliot, the great poet, was a banker with the Lloyds Bank, James Dickey created the sizzling advertisements for coca cola and lays chips and Archibald Macleish, the modernist poet was a writer and editor for fortune magazine.
In hospitals, the doctors today are taught poetry to improve their levels of empathy with patients and handle their daily interactions in a sensitive and caring manner when they examine patients.
Poetry does not make business easy, but the ability to learn from poetry can be a valuable component to Organizational Theory understand the complex dynamics of the changing business scenario today.
